Wallace-Hancock Wedding 10/12/08

I was thrilled when Sarah called to invite me to be a part of her wedding. Two years ago I had a great time shooting her sister Elizabeth's wedding in their parents' beautiful backyard so I'd been looking forward to the big day with her and Alex for months.

We started at a location I've driven by approximately, I don't know, 50,000 times but have never been inside -- St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Main. Turns out it's even prettier on the inside than the outside:

Next it was on to the Plaza to take a few pictures at Nichols Fountain before it was on to the reception.
Next it was on to the Carriage Club where I got what I think is a fantastic shot of Megan, Sarah's sister applying lipstick. She caught me the first time I tried to take this picture and when I told her it didn't turn out she re-reapplied the lipstick to make sure I got the shot. What a trooper.
One of the great things about weddings is the fleeting moments and emotions that I get a chance to be a part of. You anticipate a lot of those moments and emotions but you really can't prepare yourself for a look of abject terror on the groom's face as the cake is cut. Seriously Alex, if I didn't know any better I would think you were part of a re-enactment of the dinner scene from the first 'Alien' movie...
Then it was time for some sisterly advice from Megan & Elizabeth:
After the toasts Alex & Sarah gave a toast of their own. I know that this next picture is out of sequence but I include it here because Sarah told a story in her toast that as they walked out the back of the church Alex turned to her and said "Congratulations. You now have health insurance." That's funny.
Finally, a picture of the entertainment for the evening, the Boulevard Band. Big ups to them for playing some Doobie Brothers. There is no such thing as too much Doobie Brothers.
Thanks to Sarah, Alex, the Hancocks, the Wallaces, and everyone else there who made my last night before the family vacation to La Jolla a memorable one.
